WHAT'S THE WORD?

Updated: Jan 5, 2022

New Year’s Resolutions? Not for me.

Nine years in and I’m still a huge believer in the simplicity and power of ONE word. (Thank you to Jon Gordon & our friend Mark Ayers who gave us the book in 2013.) I have seen more growth from my singular word choices than I ever saw from “resolutions.” I always choose my word after reflection of the past year.

What is working for me?

What is not serving me?

What am I grateful for?

What am I desiring?

What do I want to shift?

A few of the most impactful word choices I have had in the past include love, create, pause, trust, present and simplify. Upon reflection this year, I felt stuck for the first time. The last two years were so profound for me. I was unknowingly putting pressure on myself to “nail it” again. In hindsight, my word came to me a while back but I had resistance. Why? Because it wasn’t sexy. It wasn’t profound. It felt boring and basic. I stopped all of this narrative and returned to myself. I leaned into my knowing of what my word needed to be for 2022: BEDTIME. Yes, that’s right, just like a toddler. I need to focus on my BEDTIME. I have a way of taking flight with a second wind around 9:00 that keeps me up too late. Well, in 2022 it is time to get my ass in BED!

My BEDTIME is my foundation and it is my first domino; the one that affects every single other thing in my life. My sleep has been poor recently, but when I occasionally have the light out by 10:00 my sleep is much better. When I am tired it affects many other things I’d like to see shift, including :

- reincorporating a more consistent early morning routine prior to my children waking

- less caffeine

- more energy

- more consistent exercise

- more focus

- more patience

- healthier eating patterns

My BEDTIME literally affects EVERYTHING. So, here it is, friends: 2022 is the year of getting real with my BEDTIME!

What is your one focus word for 2022?

Cheers (with chamomile tea)!
